Learn how Sirius Online‘s Advanced Grades math courses align with TEA’s Middle School Advanced Mathematics Program.
Sirius Online Advanced Grades 6 & 7 Math Courses
The Middle School Advanced Mathematics Program is designed to increase the number of students who complete advanced mathematics courses.
It starts with Grade 6 math: the top 40% of STAAR scores in Grade 5 math are placed in an advanced Grade 6 math course. This means more students—including greater diversity—can be ready to take Algebra I in grade 8.
Advanced Grade 6 Math – You Can Support Combined Classes
Requiring all grade 6 campuses to teach a new course without an adopted TEKS curriculum—or additional funds—is challenging.
Because of customer requests, Sirius created a new Advanced Grade 6 Mathematics course to help schools support this new course with:
- all Grade 6 TEKS, plus
- selected Grade 7 TEKS
Maximum Flexibility for STAAR Success
Sirius includes ample Grade 7 TEKS—more than are likely needed—so schools can select the Grade 7 TEKS they want to teach. Sirius integrated the grades 6 and 7 Readiness and Supporting TEKS into topics that follow a logical sequence.
Maximum flexibility is serving students in both advanced grade 6 and regular grade 6, including those regular students who require learning acceleration (tutoring); and ensuring all students are ready for the STAAR Grade 6 test in the Spring.

All Students Benefit from High Quality Instruction and Practice (Tier 1)
All students benefit from TEKS instruction that is aligned with exactly what students need to know and do on the STAAR 2.0 tests. After all, the accountability system emphasizes progress for all students.
Advanced Grade 6 Students Get Streamlined Grade 7 TEKS
Advanced Grade 6 students receive streamlined Grade 7 TEKS instruction “just in time” to extend the corresponding prerequisite Grade 6 TEKS.
Accelerated Instruction students get scaffolded TEKS-based explicit instruction in the essential TEKS. Class teachers coordinate the tutoring work with on-level class instruction, monitor student performance, and hold students accountable.
Advanced Grade 7 Math – Separate Classes
Sirius makes it easy to teach the remaining Grade 7 TEKS along with the Grade 8 TEKS in a carefully coordinated plan via Grade 7 Advanced Mathematics. The course organization is similar to Advanced Grade 6 with logically sequenced topics.
Because Advanced Grade 7 courses emphasize the Grade 8 TEKS, it cannot support combined regular and advanced Grade 7 math students. Nevertheless, it provides:
- all Grade 7 TEKS (for review and prep for Grade 7 STAAR test), and
- most Grade 8 TEKS (as recommended by TEA).
By using Sirius, your strongest students who take Advanced Grade 7 math can get Masters Grade Level.
Advanced Grade 8 Math – Coming for 2026-27
Many customers already use our Algebra I EOC course for students in Grade 8. In fact, the state-wide average shows 30% of students take Algebra in Grade 8.
With Sirius, we help your “honors” students be STAAR-ready, perform at the Masters Grade level and bring in all those accountability points.
Sirius Matches STAAR 2.0
All Sirius math courses closely match the STAAR-tested content, format, and rigor, including the tools and functionality of online STAAR 2.0 tests. In this way, Sirius fills instructional gaps in core curriculum, adding depth and rigor, such as solving math STAAR word problems. Using Sirius ensures your students learn exactly what they need to know and do on STAAR 2.0 assessments!
